Everyday people
call and ask us how can they get relief from their allergies.
In 1906 a Viennese
doctor by the name of Baron Clemens Von Pirquet coined the term "allergy"
from the Greek "allos" meaning changed or altered state, and "ergon" meaning
reaction or reactivity.
Von Pirquet used
the term to describe an altered reaction he had observed in patients, which
he associated to the influence of external factors, know as an allergen,
on the immune system.
What
Is Causing Your Allergy?
This can be a
complicated question because allergies can be caused by many different
stimuli.
These are just
some of the many known causes of airborne allergies.

Mold
|
Dust
|
|
Pollen
|
Animal Dander
|
Of course allergies
can also be caused by foods, drugs, bee stings, and a whole host of other
stimuli, but here we are only going to address airborne allergies.
What
is the solution to airborne allergies?
There
are two important things that you can do:
First;
Kill the bacteria, mold, and dust mites in the air and on surfaces in a
room.
Second;
Filter the air and physically remove allergens such as dust, dust mites,
pollen, and pet dander from your home.

How
to kill bacteria, mold, and dust mites.
To kill the mold
and bacteria in a room an ozone generator may be used.
There are two
ways to use ozone. The first is a low level of air
purification level of ozone.
This will kill
some of the airborne bacteria and mold, and a small amount of surface bacteria
and mold.
A low, safe amount
of air purification ozone
can greatly help in the killing of airborne mold and bacteria. But
that is not the complete, or even the best use of ozone.
The second use
of ozone is to blast High
Ozone Shock Treatments into unoccupied rooms.
This
is the ONLY way that you can be assured of killing most of the mold and
bacteria in a room.
Low air purification
levels of ozone, no matter how long they are maintained, can NEVER
totally sanitize a room of bacteria and mold.
That can ONLY
be done if the ozone reaches a high, toxic level of ozone in an UNOCCUPIED
room.
You MUST
to achieve a high, toxic level of ozone in order to kill mold and bacteria.
If the ozone does not reach a toxic level, then by that very definition
of the word toxic, it will never be able to kill all the mold and bacteria
in a room.
These High
Ozone Shock Treatments are to be done in rooms unoccupied of living
beings.
The user turns
the ozone generator up to its maximum level, sets the timer for an hour,
or two, and only returns to that room an hour or two after the machine
has shut itself off.
In that way the
user is never exposed to the high levels of ozone, but the bacteria and
mold may be killed by the ozone.
Since ozone is
made up entirely of oxygen, and breaks back down to only oxygen in a short
time the user is not exposed to any leftover pesticides which may further
trigger other types of allergies.
In that sense
ozone is one of the most safest toxic compounds know to man.
It is very important
that whatever air purifier is used that it have the ability to kill the
mold and bacteria by means of a High
Ozone Shock Treatment.
Small
ionizers, and low "safe ozone level" ozone generators will NEVER
be able to sanitize a room of mold and bacteria because they do not have
the power to perform these unoccupied room High
Ozone Shock Treatments.
There are many
devices out there that draw air into a special "killing
chamber" meant to kill mold and bacteria.
While these machines
may be able to accomplish that feat, think about this:
They will ONLY
be able to sanitize the air that they draw into them, and they will have
NOability
to sanitize the ENTIRE ROOM or
kill surface bacteria and mold because they have no ability to fill the
ENTIRE
ROOM with a high toxic level of ozone blasted
into an UNOCCUPIED ROOM.
Since some of
these small air purifiers have very small fans in them it would take a
very long time to draw all the air that exists in a room into them.
Such devices may
not only just be useless, they may actually be counter productive.
That is because
they give the user a false sense of security in thinking they have actually
killed the mold and bacteria when in reality they may have only killed
a minute percentage of the fungi.
While our units
have small fans as well, they are emanating ozone into the room to kill
it everywhere in the room,
NOT
just in a special "killing chamber" like other types of air purifiers.
Also note that
UV
Ultraviolet air purifiers will NOT
kill mold.
UV
Ultraviolet lamps are ineffective in killing mold and bacteria.
This is a direct
quote from General Electric, the manufacturer
of such lamps states:
"Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet
energy will NOT eliminate it."

Ionizers
also do not remove a significant amount of dust
or airborne allergens
from your home.
While ionizer
collector plates may
catch 5-10% of the dust passing by them, the majority
of
the dust is being electronically glued to your walls floor and ceiling.
While the dust might be removed from the air, it's NOT
being removed from the room.
Ionizers
simply move these pollutants around your home and make the allergy
problem worse.

Ionization Doesn't Work
How
to kill mold and bacteria in the air,
and
in the ENTIRE ROOM.
Our XT-400,
and XT-800 ozone generators
can be used for air purification
with low ozone levels meant to kill airborne bacteria and mold.
But these units
are much more than simple air purifiers.
They can also
be used to give powerful High
Ozone Shock Treatments to unoccupied areas to help sanitize ENTIRE
ROOMS, not just what passes through them as
most air purifiers do.
These units have
built in "Burst Timers"
for air purification, plus the high output, and a "Countdown
Timer" needed to perform bacteria killing
in unoccupied rooms.
These machines
can be used in bedrooms, living rooms, and offices for both air purification
and High Ozone Shock Treatments.
They are capable of high ozone treatments into rooms that are about 400-500
sq. ft.

If a bacterial
or mold contamination is very high a larger ozone generator may be required
to give very strong High Ozone
Shock Treatments to unoccupied rooms.
Our XT-2000,
XT-4000, and XT-6000
ozone generators can output very high levels of ozone for total sterilization
of both small and large rooms.
They have built
in countdown timers so that the user can set the machine to a very high
level, leave the room, and only return hours after the machine has shut
itself off when the ozone has returned to a non toxic level.
While these units
can perform a better high ozone shock than our small XT-400
and XT-800 models they
can never be used as air purifiers because their ozone outputs cannot be
lowered to a safe air purification of ozone.
These machines
are ONLY unoccupied room blasters.
Our XT-14000
and XT-28000 machines
can provide extremely high levels of ozone meant to remediate very severe
mold problems.

The
last thing you would EVER
want to use to combat an allergy would be an Ionizer.
Ionizers
will only make allergy symptoms worse.
Ionizers
DO NOT remove dust from your home. They may
sometimes remove it from the air, but all they really do is MOVE
dust and allergens around the room, NOT
REMOVE it from the room. |
|
Moving the dust,
pollen and other allergens around to different areas of your home is not
going to help your allergies.
Ionizers
simply negatively charge the air's ions so that floating dust particles
will cling to a surface in the room, much in the way static electricity
does.
In
other words ionizers are simply pushing around
the
floating dirt to the surfaces in your room!
Ionizers
are very popular for a couple of reasons. First they are a quick
sell. The customer smells the nice fresh air coming out of them.
That can only be a good thing right? Not really.
Although ionization
can give a temporary clean odor, and can get the dust out of the air, the
dust HAS to accumulate
SOMEWHERE.
Maybe on those little collector plates they have on them?
That's certainly
what the sellers of these devices would like you to believe.
Anyone who has
ever had an ionizer
knows about the "Black Wall Syndrome" where the wall will develop a black
halo of dust around the machine. Simply moving the dust and bacteria
to the walls is not a very good solution.
Some
ionizers claim to use special dust collector plates that catch all the
dust.
While
ionizer
collector plates may
catch 5-10% of the dust passing by them, the majority
of
the dust is being electronically glued to your walls floor and ceiling.
While the dust might be removed from the air, it's NOT
being removed from the room or the home.
If this is true,
and ionizers really don't work all that well, why are ionizers
being sold everywhere, including expensive TV and radio ads?
This leads us
to the second reason they are so popular. Ionizers
are very easy and cheap to make.
We know this
because we are manufacturers, and we know how much it costs to make these
types of goods.
They can be made
with just a few dollars in parts. In fact they easily can be made
for just $5.00-$15.00 worth of parts.
Some companies
sell their ionizers for $400.00 and more. Any way you slice it, that's
a TREMENDOUS
profit ratio.
So combine the
fact that an ionizer is an easy sell to the customer, and the fact that
there are obscene profits in selling them, it's no wonder they are so popular.
While ionizers
seller will swear to you up and down that each one has a better technology
and their ionizers really work, an ionizer is an ionizer, no matter
what they say.
All they really
do is move dust around your home. None of them actually remove
any dust from your home.
The real motivating
factor in ionizer sales is GREED.
Plain and simple. If we wanted to sell ionizers for huge profits
we could easily do that.
It would be a
lot less hassle than for us having to write all these web pages and explain
why what we sell really works, and back that up with actual proof.
We choose to
take the high road. We make less money than ionizer sellers. It's
a lot harder for us to educate and convince people what we have truly does
work better.
In the long run
we feel it is the right thing to do.
If you would
like to read more about ionizers, and all the problems that go with them
please read our page: Why
Ionization Doesn't Work
How
to filter dust, pollen,
and
pet dander out of the air.
How
do I truly remove dust from my home?
The ONLY
way to truly remove dust and other airborne allergens from the room is
to filter them out of the air. Preferably with a high
quality HEPA Filter.
Many of you have
had experiences with cheap, store bought, HEPA filters and feel they do
not work very well. You're completely right, they don't work very
well.
Many have low
CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) air flows. An air filter can only filter
as much air as it can draw into it.
If an air filter
has a low CFM rating it is simply not going to move, and therefore not
filter and clean much air.
A good HEPA
filter also needs a substantial amount of filter material such as cloth,
carbon, and
odor removing
zeolite in it to also work well. The further the air has to travel through
the filter material, the better it will be filtered.
Many store bought
HEPA filters have only 10 square feet of HEPA filter material and a pound
or less of carbon in them. These filters cannot filter as well as
a HEPA filter with 30 or 60 sq.ft. of filter material and 15 pounds of
carbon in them like the kind we sell.
Store bought HEPA
filters bought just don't work as well as a larger HEPA filters, and they
require filter changes more often than one with a properly sized filter.
Although the initial
expense of one of these store bought filters is cheaper, after a year the
user will find that the constant cost of replacement filters will end up
costing the user more than if they simply bought a properly sized unit
to begin with.
That combined
with the fact that these smaller air filters will never do as good a job
as a real hospital grade filter, the "bargain" of the cheap store price
turns out to be a bad investment.
Austin
Air makes some of the finest HEPA
air filters made.
Austin
Air True HEPA filtration units
effectively filter dust and pet dander out of the air.
They do much
better job than those sold in department, or home improvement stores because
of their higher air exchange ratio.
They use up to
15 pounds of activated charcoal and 80 feet of true HEPA medical filter
medium.
They meet HEPA
standards, trapping 99.97% of all particulates larger than 0.3 microns

Are
your machines guaranteed to help cure allergies?
Will the devices we sell cure your allergies?
No, allergies cannot be cured. But our air purifiers can help kill and
remove the triggers of airborne allergies.
The different types of air purifiers
we sell can help kill mold and bacteria, and remove the dust, pollen, and
pet hair that may be floating in the air of your home. The killing
and removal of these allergy triggers can only help to make the allergy
sufferer feel better. It can only have a positive effect on the home
environment to kill mold and bacteria, and remove airborne allergens.

What's NOT
going to help your allergies are cheap gimmick air purifiers. Units
that have ionizers
in them that can't kill any bacteria, or actually remove any dust from
your home are essentially useless.
Ionizers
may temporarily make the air smell better when they are on, but simply
creating fresh smelling air is not going to alleviate allergy symptoms.
Ionizers
can't kill mold, and they can't remove dust from your home. To the
contrary they will electronically glue any airborne dust, mold, and bacteria
to every surface in your home, and therefore make any allergy situation
WORSE
in the long run.
Once again we recommend you to read
our web page about ionizers
and strongly urge that you never use one of these gimmick devices in your
home.
They are NOT
the same as a true ozone generator.
If ionizers
worked we would be the first in line to sell them, and reap the high profits
they sew.
Not only do they NOT
work, they make the dust and bacteria problem worse in the long run.

Low output ozone generators are not
going to do much for allergies either. An ozone generator that only
has a low ozone output has NO ability to perform
High
Ozone Shock Treatments that are a MUST
for killing mold an bacteria.
No matter how long you run a low level
ozone generator in a room, it will NEVER be
able to kill a substantial amount of the bacteria and mold in that room.
To truly sterilize rooms of mold and
bacteria you MUST have an ozone generator that can perform High
Ozone Shock Treatments. An ozone generator that cannot
produce at least 400 mg/hr of ozone cannot truly shock a normal sized room.
That's the minimum amount of ozone you'll need to perform a proper shock.
Larger rooms, or more severe bacterial contamination's will require higher
ozone outputs to perform proper shock treatments.

UV
Ultraviolet lamps are ineffective air purifiers and are not going to
do much good for helping to control allergies.
It takes a much
higher dosage of UV light to kill bacteria than what 99% of UV air purifiers
output, and UV light cannot kill mold once it has already formed.
This is a direct
quote from General Electric, the manufacturer
of such lamps:
"Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet
energy will NOT eliminate it."
Click
Here to read more about the problems with ultraviolet air purifiers.

Most smaller store bought HEPA filters
are too small, and don't have a high enough fan speed, or contain enough
filter material in them to do a decent job of filtering dust and particulate
matter out of the air. Not only do they not do a great job of filtering
the air, they usually require often and expensive filter changes.
You may save a few dollars on them when you initially buy them, but shortly
it will become apparent they are not the bargain you though they were.

Quality filters for your HVAC air conditioning
system are a good idea, but they are not going to solve a dust problem.
While they can do a decent job of filtering the air, realize they will
only work when the ventilation system is on. They can only filter the air
if there is a return air vent in the room you want the air filtration in.
If the filter isn't sucking in dust in the room you are in, it's not going
to remove any dust in that room.

Also beware of those combination all
in one units that have ozone, ionization, and a small HEPA filters.
They just don't do a very good job.
These machines simply play into the
customers desire to have one machine that will "do it all".
In reality these types of "air purifiers"
do none of the jobs they claim to do very well.
There
is no single air purifier that can kill all the mold and bacteria, and
filter all the dust in a room.
They do NOT
exist. If they could be built we would be the first company in line
to build them.
We know that's what people want, unfortunately
combining a machine to perform all these different types of air purification
functions just doesn't work that well.
Don't let a nice sales pitch of a company
claiming "new technology" influence your sense of reason.
The physics of air purification are
simple. Low levels for killing airborne bacteria, high levels for
sterilizing entire rooms, and high quality HEPA air filters for clearing
dust and particulate matter from the air.
No "new" technology can break the laws
of physics that govern these basics of air purification.

What
about those who say ozone isn't safe?
Ozone is all around us. It is
made by nature. We are breathing it in all the time. Low levels
of ozone are perfectly fine to breathe. The ONLY
warnings that have ever been issued against the use of ozone are the OVERLY
HIGH us of ozone in OCCUPIED areas.
Air-Zone
ozone air purifiers are the safest on the market because they incorporate
a special "burst timer" to limit ozone levels to safe levels.
Many of our machines also have a sanitizing
mode to blast out unoccupied rooms with High
Ozone
Shock
Treatments that can sanitize entire rooms of mold, bacteria,
and viruses.

One last point, despite what you may
have heard from other sources, air purifiers cannot work through walls.
We thought it important to mention that because these types of claims are
commonly made.
What works for allergy relief are proven
technologies: Low, safe, levels of ozone for air
purification, high
levels of ozone blasted into unoccupied rooms for killing mold and
bacteria,
and true HEPA
air filters to remove particulate allergens from the air. |
